Supima® cotton is a premium variety of cotton grown in the United States. The name “Supima” is a combination of “Superior” and “Pima,” reflecting its superior quality over standard cotton types. It is exclusively grown in the U.S., specifically in the states of California, Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico. It is classified as an extra-long staple (ELS) cotton, with fibers that are at least 1.5 inches long. This length is about 50% longer than that of regular cotton fibers.
The longer fibers contribute to a softer and more lustrous fabric. They also result in stronger and more durable cotton that is less prone to pilling, tearing, and fading and making it known for its exceptional softness and comfort. Supima cotton is therefore softer and more luxurious than conventional cotton. The length of the fibres also provides a smooth surface and a soft fabric that is less prone to pilling. Due to the fine fibres, dyes are absorbed better and more deeply and thus come out more intensively. Even after many washes, Supima® products retain their colour brilliance, so they can be used for many years.
